I grew up in Glendalough, Co. Wicklow, surrounded by the simple magic of homemade food.
My mum ran a tearooms and guesthouse. Everything was made from scratch from scones to wildberry jams and homemade lemonade. Those early days during the summer holidays helping mum in the kitchen taught me the power of care, craft, and community—the same principles that inspire everything we do at Maria Lucia Bakes.
Over ten years ago, a friend with coeliac disease told me how hard it was to find gluten-free food that tasted good and felt good. Most of it was mass-produced, overly sweet, and
uninspired. I knew I could do better. After a few experiments, I created a granola that tasted like real food—simple, satisfying, and made with love.
When it sold out on the first day at our local farmers’ market, I realized this wasn’t just about granola. It was about making people feel seen, cared for, and nourished.
Today, we’re still doing just that. Every product we make is crafted by a dedicated team in Ballingeary, County Cork. But we’re not just about food. With over 20 years of experience in another company coaching individuals and businesses, I’ve learned that the right supports can transform potential into possibility. That’s why we also mentor early-stage businesses in the food industry—helping them thrive in a challenging, rewarding world.
